Finding out that your roof is leaking is something no homeowner wants to experience. It is important to frequently inspect your roof to be aware of problems before they arise. You must take immediate action to avoid further damage to your home when a leak or issue has been identified.
Your roof leaking is already headache enough. You don’t want to have your belongings ruined in the process. No matter where the leak is, make sure you move everything out of the way. This will help with clean up & repair after the leak on your roof has been replaced or repaired.
If water begins dripping from a bulge in your ceiling, water is likely pooling up on the other side of that bulge due to a leak on your roof. Depending on the severity of the leak you may need to grab a bucket, trash can, or another large container and place it directly under the site of the drip or leak. Not catching the water can cause additional damage to the floor of your home or your personal belongings that may be underneath. If you are bothered by the repetitive dripping sound coming from the leak on your roof, we suggest propping up a board inside of the container so the drips don’t hit the accumulated water.
If you identify the source of the leak as coming from an issue with your roof and you need to replace the roof on your home, RTP Roofing has you covered. There are many different reasons that the roof of a home can leak, especially in Rhode Island. Roof leaks can be caused by damage due to wind, a storm, or even wildlife. Most homeowners don’t know the age of the roof when they purchase the home or have been told they have plenty of years left on the roof.
A sagging bulge on your ceiling is a serious issue. Once you have a container in place to collect the water, poke a hole in the area. It may seem like a bad idea, but if you leave it, the water may spread and cause severe damage to the ceiling – including collapse.
If untreated the area could eventually erupt on its own depending on the severity, creating a much bigger mess. You can use a screwdriver to carefully puncture the lowest point of the bulge to relieve the pressure. If the bulge is large it’s a good sign that your roof may need to be replaced.
While you’re waiting for RTP Roofing to schedule your free inspection, place a tarp over the affected area on your roof.
